The dried leaves of Indian Bay Leaf Tree or Malabar Leaf Tree is commonly used for culinary and medicinal purposes. Among the different varieties of Indian bay leaves, the bay leaves sourced from Wayanad are of superior quality due to the climatic and soil conditions. Most of the bay leaves available in the market are of the leaves of a tree that looks very similar to bay leaves! This tree is commonly seen in forests and in private plantations hence very cheap whereas the True bay leaf needs to be properly cultivated.
At Wayanadcraft, Bay Leaf is grown naturally in our own plantation in Wayanad, Kerala. We don’t use any fertilizer or pesticides specifically for Bay Leaf Trees. For other different crops in the plantation, we use only bio-fertilisers and biopesticides and is certified (“Bharatiya Prakartik Krishi
Padhathi”) by the Agriculture Department who conducts frequent inspections. All of our products are naturally grown and free from chemicals and pesticides.
The raw Bay Leaf is handpicked and then washed in clean water. The leaves are then dried under sunlight. Once it is dried adequately, manually sorted and then packed.
